Argyll Castles ~ ~ time to go exploringThroughout Argyll, castles appear to dominate the landscape.
Scotland has had an unsettled and violent past and there are estimated to be in excess of 3000 castles - some still standing, others little more than foundations - mainly in the Highlands & Borders areas. This section will give you a taste of fortifications in Argyll, the Lands of Lorn and a little bit of history. Where possible there'll be pictures of the castles and coming soon is a section on the clans of scotland so keep checking back. The list below is not exhaustive and is being added to as and when If there's a particular castle (Or anything for that matter!) you'd like more information on then
please use the contact form to get in touch
and I'll do what I can.
Alternatively if you'd like to contribute yourself please feel free. Even if you don't have writing skills (I don't ... ) just send me the bare information and I'll make a page of it. I thouroughly enjoy visiting castles especially when I know some of the history of the region and it's my intention that these pages will enhance your visit.
